The men have been identified as Mohit Jakhad (29), a resident of Goyla Khurd, Chhawla, Delhi, and Jatin Rajput (21), of Vipin Garden, Dwarka Mor.
The encounter took place in the early hours of September 26, when the two accused, riding a motorcycle near Dhankot, opened fire at the police team. Sub Inspector Vikas was hit in the arm, while another bullet struck Head Constable Narpat’s bulletproof jacket, leaving him unharmed.
The police retaliated in self-defence and managed to overpower the duo, who sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. They were taken to hospital along with the injured officer.
The arrests are linked to the killing of Tehlan on July 4, in Najafgarh. Tehlan, a prime witness in an earlier double murder, was targeted by gangster Sanjeev alias Sanju Dahiya, a former associate turned rival who blamed him for informing police about his movements.
In February 2024, Dahiya and his aide Harsh alias Chintu had attacked Tehlan in a Najafgarh salon, killing two of his associates, Sonu Tehlan and Ashish Sindhu. Though Chintu was later arrested after being deported from Mexico, Dahiya remains absconding.
The police said the two men arrested on Friday admitted they acted on Dahiya’s instructions and sought revenge against Tehlan. Officers added that both, influenced by gangster culture, had fallen under Dahiya’s sway.
Delhi Police said its crackdown on organised crime has intensified in recent weeks, with 44 gang members and six juveniles apprehended across Delhi-NCR in the past month alone.
