3 members of ‘Thak-Thak’ gang arrested
The police have arrested three members of the ‘Thak-Thak’ gang, responsible for a spate of vehicle break-ins in the city. The accused, Surya Swami and Romit, alias Jony, both residents of Madangir in Delhi, and Karan, a resident of a slum near Inderpuri, Delhi, have confessed to involvement in 21 incidents of vehicle theft in Gurugram.
Surya and Romit were apprehended on May 8 from Gurugram, while Karan was arrested a day later from Aaya Nagar, Delhi. All three were initially remanded to five days of police custody by a local court and have since been sent to judicial custody following the completion of the remand period.
According to Gurugram police, the accused targeted vehicles parked in isolated areas. They used a slingshot loaded with iron pellets to break the window glass and steal valuables such as laptops, purses, cash and other belongings from inside the cars.
A complaint was filed on April 30 by a local resident, who alleged that his laptop, purse, and other valuables had been stolen from his car in the DLF Phase 1 area. A case was subsequently registered at the DLF Phase 1 police station.
During the investigation, a team from the Sector 43 crime unit tracked down and arrested Surya and Romit, leading to Karan’s arrest soon after. The police have recovered a a bike, slingshot, pellets, a laptop charger, and six credit and debit cards from the them.
