5 convicted for murder of Alipur sarpanch; one gets life imprisonment

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Diwan on Wednesday convicted five accused persons for the murder of Alipur village’s sarpanch in 2020. While one of the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment, the other four were awarded seven years of imprisonment and fine.

According to the police, on July 15, 2020, officials at Sohna station received information regarding a person being shot in front of Krishna Hospital. A police team reached the spot and rushed the injured to Medanta Hospital. The victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. He was identified as Manoj Kumar, the sarpanch of Alipur village. Following a complaint from the brother of the deceased an FIR was registered at the Sohna police station.

Investigation led to the arrest of five accused. The accused were identified as Bharat and Mukesh, alias Prince, residents of Kosi Kalan village in district Mathura, UP; Mohit Lamba of Ballabgarh; Punit of Fazilpur Patli village in Gurugram; and Anmol, a resident of Chitana village. All the accused were sent into judicial custody after being produced in court.

After arresting the accused, the police team investigated the case thoroughly and collected all the necessary evidence and witnesses against them and filed a chargesheet.

“On the basis of the chargesheet, evidence and witnesses, the court of Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Diwan on Wednesday sentenced accused Bharat to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh. The other four got seven years of imprisonment and were told to pay fine of Rs 25,000,” said a Gurugram police spokesperson.
