The office of Minister of State (MoS) for Home Ajay Mishra has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police alleging that blackmailing attempts were made with videos of the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. The polce have arrested five persons in the connection, officials said.

Police officials said four of them were arrested from Noida and one from Delhi.

The police received a complaint from Mishra’s personal assistant that he was receiving extortion calls from some people, the officials said, adding that a probe was being conducted as to why the aide was being blackmailed.

The police officials said the complaint of the extortion calls was made on December 17 (last Friday) and an FIR was lodged in the New Delhi district and the Minister’s house in Delhi was placed under surveillance. — TNS
