5 nabbed as cops unearth syndicate supplying banned drugs in Capital

Five people were arrested after an interstate syndicate involved in the illegal supply of banned pharmaceutical drugs was unearthed leading to the seizure of 54,000 Tramadol tablets worth more than Rs 32 lakh, the police said on Monday.

The accused were identified as Mohammad Abid (50), Javed Khan (45), Sunil Kumar (40), Vishnu Dutt (62) and Vikash Singh (38).

Acting on specific intelligence, the police laid a trap in Madanpur Khadar Extension-I in southeast Delhi on October 7 and apprehended a man carrying a large bag, a police official said. Abid was found in possession of 54,000 tablets of Treken-100, a Tramadol-based psychotropic medicine, banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said.

An FIR under provisions of the NDPS Act was registered and Abid was arrested, he added.

Abid disclosed that he was allegedly working with an associate Javed Khan, following which he was arrested, the police said.

Further probe led to the arrest Sunil, Vishnu, an exporter, and Vikas, owner of a courier business.
