70 terror sleeper cells busted by Delhi Police in three years

Delhi top cop says a total of 30 terrorists and aides arrested in the period

The Delhi Police have busted 70 terror sleeper modules and arrested nearly 30 terrorists, accomplices in the national capital in the last three years.

Speaking at an event, Police Commissioner Satish Golchha said, “The Delhi Police have acted tough against terror by busting 70 terror sleeper modules in the last three years and arrested 30 terrorists and their accomplices.”

The Police Commissioner said the force was also putting a special focus on threat and extortion calls by gangsters.

He also highlighted the efforts made by the Delhi Police against narcotics drugs, increasing number of PCR vans, community policing schemes like Sashakti, action against overstaying foreigners, illegal immigrants and steps to improve traffic in the Capital.

In September, the police busted a pan-India terror module and arrested five terror suspects from Delhi, Jharkhand, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. The police also recovered material used to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

In November, the Special Cell unit busted a terror module linked to Pakistan-backed gangster Shahzad Bhatti that was supplying weapons and drugs to Indian gangsters via drones.

The police arrested three members - Hargunpreet Singh from Punjab, Vikas Prajapati from Datia in Madhya Pradesh, and Arif from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh - of the module.
