The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday alleged that a large-scale fraud in “addition and deletion” of voters was taking place at the behest of the BJP in the New Delhi constituency from where Arvind Kejriwal is currently the sitting MLA.

“A large-scale fraud is taking place in voter additions and deletions in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. Delhi CM Atishi ji has written a letter to hon’ble CEC presenting evidence and seeking time to meet him,” AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal said.

Atishi, later at a press conference, presented data and testimonies, allegedly showing “widespread tampering with voter rolls”. The party accused the BJP of “orchestrating the fraud” to influence the elections in a constituency from where Kejriwal has won three consecutive times.

“Between December 15, 2024, and January 2, 2025, over 10,500 new voter addition applications — amounting to 10% of the constituency’s total voter base — were submitted after the Election Commission’s summary voter revision had ended,” the CM alleged.

The party demanded immediate action, including 100% verification of objectors, house-to-house surveys, public disclosure of applicant details, and telephonic confirmations to prevent further fraud.

The BJP replied by saying that when three senior leaders of a party need to hold a press conference over a single constituency, it sends a clear message that the party is either lagging behind or losing in that constituency.

“Since the details of votes shifted and deceased votes being removed from the New Delhi constituency became public, Arvind Kejriwal has been under political stress because these slum cluster votes were his party’s key support base,” Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said.

He said that most RWAs in Delhi are actively working to remove fake, fraudulent, shifted and deceased votes, and many social organisations are focusing on removing the votes of illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the district election officer (DEO) of New Delhi district has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, alleging that AAP leaders Raghav Chaddha and Sanjay Singh are frequently visiting his office and pressuring him to reveal personal details of objectors.

“...Raghav Chaddha visited the office of DEO on December 21, 28, 29 and on January 3 both Raghav Chaddha and Sanjay Singh visited... there have been attempts on their part to exert pressure on me by asking for personal details of the objector and other such information which falls outside the purview of routine operations,” an excerpt from the letter read.

The DEO also alleged that Atishi has been calling him for a meeting without a specific agenda where discussions are being held on electoral rolls.

The Additional District Magistrate of the New Delhi district also wrote a letter to DCP (New Delhi) seeking extra deployment of police force at the district election office in the wake of the presence of representatives of political parties at the poll body’s office.
