The AAP on Friday demanded an immediate accommodation for party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who resigned from the post of Chief Minister earlier this week.

Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha said as per law, the national party is granted an official party office and a government accommodation for the party chief.

“The AAP is the fastest-growing political party in the country. Within 10 years, we have achieved the status of a national party,” Chadha said.

“The law says that whenever a party becomes a national party, it is granted two provisions. These are not facilities, but necessities — first, the party is given an office in the Capital to carry out its work, and the second is government accommodation for the national convener,” he added.

Kejriwal had announced his resignation two days after walking out from Tihar Jail in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

“Over time, when various political parties have become national parties, their national presidents or conveners have been provided with government accommodations in Delhi. This is mandated by the Election Commission law,” the MP said.

The party will write to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to grant Kejriwal a government accommodation as AAP national convener.

He said, “The provision of giving these resources to the national parties of the country was made legally because to run a national party, a mechanism and some resources are required. Thousands of people from all over the country come to meet and write letters.”
