A delegation of AAP MLAs, led by the party’s Delhi unit president, Saurabh Bharadwaj, met Police Commissioner Satish Golcha on Tuesday, flagging concerns over law and order in the national capital.

The legislators cited reports of robbery, extortion and murder, linking these to the sale of synthetic drugs in several parts of the city.

“Drugs are being sold openly in many areas, and this is one of the key reasons behind the growing crime rate,” Bharadwaj said after the meeting.

He added that the Police Commissioner had assured the delegation that new steps were being planned to curb crime, and that cooperation from all stakeholders would be sought.

“We assured him of our full support. Our aim is to reduce crime in the Capital and ensure safety for Delhiites,” Bharadwaj said.

The delegation also raised the issue of alleged attacks on party members.

Bharadwaj cited to the case of MLA Anil Jha, who was allegedly attacked along with his family during a private function.

A separate incident involving AAP councillor Gagan was also highlighted, where the accused, reportedly facing multiple criminal cases and under a ‘tadipar’ order, managed to enter the Delhi MC Zone Chairman’s office and allegedly assaulted the councillor before fleeing.

The meeting also included discussions on area-specific concerns raised by Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh, Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar, Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha and others.

Bharadwaj welcomed the appointment of a Delhi-cadre officer as Police Commissioner, saying that long service in the city would enable him to understand its challenges better.
