Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva criticised the Delhi Government’s decision to impose a complete ban on crackers, calling it an ineffective and outdated approach to tackling pollution.

Sachdeva said, “While measures against pollution are necessary, the ban on crackers fails to address the primary sources of winter pollution.” He highlighted that the real contributors to rising pollution levels in the winter months are stubble burning, construction activities and road dust. “Yet, the Kejriwal government has not taken any concrete steps to address these issues. Instead, they have hastily imposed a ban on crackers,” he added.

He argued that past experiences show the ban on crackers is not well-received by residents. “Every year, despite the ban, crackers are widely burnt. The government should have promoted the use of green crackers instead of enforcing an outright ban,” Sachdeva said.

He accused the government of relying on superficial measures rather than addressing the core issues of pollution.

Meanwhile, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav criticised the Kejriwal government’s ‘Winter Action Plan’ for controlling pollution, calling it a failure. Yadav said the changes made to the plan by Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai highlight his incompetence and inability to manage the Capital’s worsening air quality.

“The Kejriwal government has been using a smokescreen for the past 10 years in the name of pollution control, but no real, concrete steps have been taken to address the root causes,” Yadav stated.
