New Delhi, August 2
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday criticised the BJP, the Lieutenant-Governor (LG) and the Prime Minister for their silence over the recent deaths of a mother and her child, who fell into an open drain in Mayur Vihar Phase-3. The AAP announced a massive protest at Raj Niwas on Saturday, demanding accountability from the L-G.
During a press conference on Friday, AAP Delhi state convener Gopal Rai accused the BJP and the L-G of “politicising” tragedies like the recent incident in Rajinder Nagar while ignoring the negligence of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in the Mayur Vihar incident. “The BJP is quick to blame the Delhi Government’s PWD for accidents, but they fall silent when it turns out the drain in question belongs to the DDA,” Rai stated.
He added, “The BJP and the L-G have failed to take action against the responsible officers or even announce compensation for the victims’ family.”
