BJP MP from South Delhi Ramvir Singh Bidhuri accused former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party of betraying the rural areas of Delhi, alleging they have continuously failed to deliver on their promises.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Bidhuri challenged Kejriwal to a public debate to prove his allegations, offering to leave politics if Kejriwal could substantiate his claims.

“The BJP is committed to the welfare of Delhi’s rural areas, while Kejriwal and his party have consistently failed the farmers and rural residents,” said Bidhuri.

“It’s a case of the thief scolding the police. Kejriwal has not done any work in the interest of Delhi’s rural areas and all the promises he made remain unfulfilled,” said Bidhuri.

Bidhuri was accompanied by Vinod Sehrawat, president of the State Kisan Morcha, who also addressed the media. Bidhuri highlighted the 2013 proposal by the Sheila Dikshit-led government to regularise the expanding rural population of Delhi, which the Kejriwal government is yet to implement.

“The previous government passed the proposal. Hundreds of layout plans from RWAs were submitted, but the AAP government failed to act on it,” he said.

He also criticised Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi for not fulfilling their promise to waive off house taxes in rural areas.

“Farmers who had their land acquired were supposed to be given alternative residential plots, but the AAP government halted this scheme,” he said.

Bidhuri further accused the Kejriwal government of not keeping promises related to farmers’ welfare, including the promise of a 50 per cent increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for crops and free electricity for irrigation. Instead, farmers are still charged commercial electricity rates. “The government also failed to give ownership rights to landless farmers who were supposed to benefit from the 20-point programme,” Bidhuri said.
