ABVP opposes Telangana Government’s auction of Hyderabad University land

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has vehemently opposed the auction of 400 acres of land at Hyderabad Central University (HCU), describing it as an encroachment on educational property. A delegation of ABVP leaders met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, submitting a memorandum requesting Central Government intervention to ensure the land remains under the university’s control.

During a press conference, ABVP leaders condemned the Telangana government’s decision, highlighting the land is not only crucial for academic purposes but also holds ecological value with rich biodiversity. They said transferring it to private entities would disrupt academic activities and cause significant environmental harm, endangering rare species and disturbing the area’s climate balance.

ABVP also accused the Telangana Government of suppressing student protests, alleging police were deployed inside the campus without permission and several students were arrested. The student group called this an attack on student rights and university autonomy, urging the Centre to intervene and officially transfer the entire 2,320-acre land to HCU to prevent further encroachments.

ABVP National Secretary Shivangi Kharwal stated, “This land is not just a plot but a national academic and environmental heritage. The government’s attempt to hand it over to private companies is an assault on student rights. ABVP will not back down and is prepared for a nationwide movement.”

ABVP National Secretary Shravan B Raj added, “The land of educational institutions should serve the purpose of education and research, not commercial interests. The Education Minister has assured us that the Central Government will take serious action and has already written to the Telangana Chief Minister demanding an immediate resolution.”
