Ahead of Independence Day, nine people were arrested in separate raids for flaunting firearms on social media, leading to the recovery of one semi-automatic pistol, 23 country made pistols, and 30 cartridges in the Outer North district, the police said on Thursday.
The action was taken on the intervening night of August 12 and 13 based on inputs from the Outer North cyber police station as technical surveillance was heightened ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Information was gathered by dedicated teams regarding persons flaunting illegal firearms on social media platforms, according to DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami.
