Assembly session on May 13, school fee Bill to be tabled
The second part of the Delhi Assembly’s Budget session will begin on May 13. During the session, the government is expected to table a landmark Bill aimed at regulating private school fee in the national capital, officials said on Friday.
During the session, the government is likely to table the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, which got Cabinet nod on April 29. The legislation seeks to curb arbitrary fee hike and ensure transparency in fee structures across 1,677 private schools in the city.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood have hailed the draft as a long-overdue reform and a major step toward accountability in private education. “This is the first serious legislative intervention in nearly three decades to rein in unchecked annual fee hike,” said CM Gupta, adding that the government was committed to protecting parents from financial exploitation by schools.
The Bill proposes strict penalties, including cancellation of registration for schools that levy unauthorised fee or harass students over fee-related issues. It also mandates the involvement of parents, school management and the Directorate of Education in decisions regarding fee revisions.
Officials said the Assembly would begin at 2 pm on May 13 in the Assembly Hall at the Old Secretariat. The first part of the Budget session commenced on March 24, during which CM Gupta presented her maiden Budget for 2025-26.
