DU, police compare notes on conduct of student polls

Following the completion of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, a review meeting of the DUSU Election Committee was held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh. Senior officials from the Delhi Police were also present on the occasion.

Congratulating the DUSU Election Committee and the Delhi Police for the smooth conduct of the elections, the V-C said, “We have learnt a lot from our past experiences and this experience will be useful in the upcoming elections.” He added that the successful conduct of the elections was possible due to positive cooperation from both sides and invited police officers to share their experiences and suggestions.

On the occasion, police officers were honored for their cooperation. DUSU Chief Election Officer Prof Raj Kishore Sharma presented information about the elections, stating that this year, the voter turnout was 4 per cent higher than last year and Miranda House recorded over 60 per cent voter participation. He also noted an increase in NOTA votes this year.

Delhi Police DCP North Bhisham Singh, who has been overseeing DUSU elections for the past 30 years, said, “This year’s elections were successfully conducted due to excellent coordination between Delhi University and the Delhi Police.” He added that DCP North Raja Banthia’s innovative methods ensured smooth conduct of the elections.
