Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from South Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, on Friday urged the Centre to approve the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) long-pending proposal for Change of Land Use (CLU) of 351 roads across the Capital. The MP said the step will provide major relief to traders and generate substantial revenue for the government.
Raising the issue in Parliament, Bidhuri said the MCD had identified the 351 roads years ago and recommended their conversion to commercial and mixed land-use categories, as mandated under the Master Plan Delhi (MPD) 2021. However, the approvals have been pending with the government.
According to the MPD guidelines, roads with 70 per cent or more shops qualify to be declared commercial, while those with 50 per cent or more shops should be marked as mixed-land-use. “Once the land use is changed, shopkeepers can continue their business legally by paying the conversion fee. This will bring in hundreds of crores for the government and boost employment,” Bidhuri said.
Bidhuri also demanded an immediate survey of the remaining roads in Delhi so that their land use could be reassessed and modified, wherever necessary.
