Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsThe BJP on Thursday alleged that the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was linked to AAP after a picture of the accused with AAP’s Gujarat MLA Gopal Italia surfaced on social media. “What was suspected has happened. The photo with Arvind Kejriwal’s close associate Gopal Italia says a lot. It clearly seems that the attack on Rekha Gupta ji today is connected to the Aam Aadmi Party. Kejriwal ji, please explain — ‘What is this relationship called?’” BJP MLA Harish Khurana wrote on X and shared a picture of Italia with the accused.
CM Rekha Gupta was allegedly attacked by a 41-year-old man from Gujarat’s Rajkot during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme at her official residence in Civil Lines in New Delhi. The police immediately took the accused, Rajesh Bhai Khimji, into custody and later registered an FIR against him under multiple sections of the law including attempted murder. After the picture surfaced on social media, the BJP demanded an explanation from the AAP leadership over the alleged links and called for strict action against those behind the attack.
Meanwhile, AAP outright rejected the allegations levelled by the BJP leader and stated that Khurana is deliberately defaming their party by sharing an “AI-generated” picture. “We do not support any violence. Harish Khurana is defaming us by using an AI photo. The photo with Gopal Italia is created by AI”, a party leader said. He even shared a link to the original video from which the alleged picture was purportedly created. “The video link is from August 2. There is someone else with Gopal Italia in the video,” he said.
