New Delhi, July 6

Several BJP leaders planted saplings and paid floral tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee, founder of Jan Sangh, on his birth anniversary at Dr Mookerjee Smriti Park, Delhi Gate, on Saturday.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva chaired the event, with BJP’s national general secretary Shiv Prakash as the keynote speaker.

Union Minister and BJP national president JP Nadda also paid homage to Mookerjee at the BJP headquarters in the Capital on Saturday.

“We remember Mookerjee on his birth anniversary today and honour his legacy by planting saplings,” said Sachdeva.

Amidst light rain this morning, a significant gathering of party workers and leaders attended the event. Among them were state organisation secretary Pawan Rana, MPs Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Yogender Chandolia, Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Bansuri Swaraj. Former MP Ramesh Bidhuri, MLA Vijender Gupta, Om Prakash Sharma, Mohan Singh Bisht and Anil Bajpai were also present, along with the Opposition leader in the Municipal Corporation, Raja Iqbal Singh, and numerous state and district officials.

Addressing the audience, Shiv Prakash highlighted Mookerjee’s unwavering dedication to the nation and society. “His life epitomised service to the country, not only in Kashmir but also in the realm of education,” he said.

Sachdeva emphasised Mookerjee’s advocacy for national unity, stating, “He showed us the strength of unity. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, we leveraged this strength to secure victory in all seven seats in Delhi. We are prepared to replicate this success in the upcoming Assembly elections.”

Reflecting on Mookerjee’s vision, Sachdeva noted, “His pledge was that this country should not have ‘Do Nishan, Do Vidhan, Do Pradhan’. PM Modi fulfilled his wish on August 5, 2019, by abrogating Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Echoing these sentiments, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj remarked, “Mookerjee sacrificed his life for the integration of our country. He envisioned a united India… It is our fortune that BJP, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, has been able to fulfil his dream.”
