BJP Sikh cell protests Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in US

The Delhi BJP Sikh cell held a protest near Sonia Gandhi’s residence on Wednesday, calling for an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks about Sikhs. The protesters, led by senior BJP leaders, demanded that Rahul retract his statement, which they said insulted the Sikh community. They accused him of questioning the safety of Sikhs and their religious freedom in India during his recent visit to the US.

National BJP spokesperson RP Singh, along with Delhi BJP’s cell in-charge Ashok Thakur, Sikh cell in-charge Tarvinder Singh Marwah, convener Charanjeet Singh Lovely and other leaders, participated in the protest. Hundreds of Sikh community members joined them in condemning Rahul’s comments. The protesters were briefly detained by the police but released shortly after. Lovely expressed outrage over Rahul’s remarks, calling them a reflection of “small-mindedness.”

“Rahul’s statement in the US that Sikh turbans are unsafe in India and that they lack religious freedom is deeply offensive. The Congress party, led by his family, has historically caused the most harm to the Sikh community,” he said.

. “He continues to insult the Sikh community on foreign soil. His father Rajiv Gandhi was responsible for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, and now Rahul is perpetuating the same attitude,” Marwah said.

“The Sikh community played a significant role in India’s independence. It is something Rahul will never understand. He must learn the history of his family and the damage they caused to Sikhs,” he added.

Former convener Kulvinder Singh Bunty also criticised Rahul for making such remarks on foreign soil, which, he argued, damages the unity and integrity of the country. “Sikhs enjoy full religious freedom in India, and they are entirely safe here. Rahul’s statement is completely false, and we condemn it in the strongest terms,” Bunty said.
