In a protest, BJP candidate from the New Delhi Assembly constituency Parvesh Verma immersed a cut-out of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the polluted waters of the Yamuna here on Saturday.

The act was aimed at highlighting the AAP’s unfulfilled promise to clean the river, which Verma termed “the biggest betrayal with the people of Delhi.”

“Despite having 11 long years of power and spending Rs 8,000 crore, the AAP government failed to deliver on its promise of cleaning the Yamuna,” Verma said.

The BJP leader criticised Kejriwal for claiming that the river would be clean by 2025, but the situation only deteriorated under the AAP government. “We are exposing his failure to the people of Delhi by immersing his cut-out,” he added.

During his previous election campaigns, Kejriwal admitted that his government had not been able to fulfill the promise of cleaning the Yamuna. However, he assured the public that the river would be cleaned within the next two to three years, if AAP retained power in Delhi.

Verma accused Kejriwal of making “hollow promises and false claims” during his tenure as the Chief Minister. “This act of immersing his cut-out in the Yamuna is a reminder to the people that it is time to free Delhi from deceitful promises,” the BJP leader said.

The BJP leader said such demonstrations were necessary to highlight the failures of the AAP government. “This is not just about the Yamuna. It’s about the broader politics of lies and propaganda that have kept Delhi problems unresolved,” Verma remarked.
