BJP’s Vijender dismisses Atishi’s allegations of emptying MC coffers

Says her remarks depict her frustration following AAP’s defeat

Vijender Gupta, BJP MLA from Rohini and former Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, strongly rejected the allegations made by Delhi’s caretaker Chief Minister Atishi, who alleged that the BJP emptied the coffers of the Municipal Corporation and the Delhi government.

Gupta labelled Atishi’s remarks as a result of frustration and desperation following her party’s electoral defeat.

Criticising Atishi for making baseless allegations, Gupta said her frustration stemmed from AAP’s poor performance in the recent elections where key leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Saurabh Bharadwaj suffered losses.

He said Atishi was now worried on how to face questions regarding AAP’s alleged corruption in the Assembly.

Gupta stated that if the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is facing a financial crisis, the blame lies solely with the AAP government. He cited the failure of the AAP administration to constitute the 6th Delhi Finance Commission, which is responsible for the financial management of the MCD.

Gupta also criticised the AAP for its failure to address core municipal issues such as cleanliness, waste management and sewage, despite being in power since 2022.

The BJP leader further accused the AAP government of emptying Delhi’s treasury due to mismanagement and corruption, claiming that the AAP’s decade-long tenure was marked by corruption and neglect of public welfare. He vowed that once the BJP government takes over, it would work to streamline the finances and address the revenue deficit.

Gupta also pointed out that development projects, including Yamuna clean-up, had already commenced even before the official formation of the BJP government.

Refuting claims of power outages in Delhi, Gupta said power companies had clarified there were no scheduled power cuts. He dismissed Atishi’s allegations as baseless and attributed them to her “deteriorating mental state”.
