The government plans to set up 100 canteens across the city starting December 25, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
According to the DUSIB, food will not be prepared on site. For this, a notification issued by the shelter body has set a task of identifying suitable locations in JJ clusters, designing the centres as per requirement and completing the operational framework of the scheme. The DUSIB is also working on finalising the food, its pricing and related matters to ensure smooth functioning of the canteens once they start functioning.
The notification said that to streamline the implementation of the scheme, the government has constituted a dedicated Atal Canteen Branch under DUSIB, which will function under the supervision of the Principal Director of DUSIB, who will be assisted by a Superintending Engineer and an Executive Engineer.
This wing is tasked with coordinating every stage of the project. Atal Canteens was a major announcement in the BJP’s manifesto for Delhi Assembly elections.
