New Delhi, July 26

Residents of Delhi faced heavy rains for the third consecutive day on Friday morning, resulting in severe waterlogging and widespread traffic jams across the city. Areas, including Connaught Place, Minto Road, ITO, C-Hexagon near India Gate, Shanti Path in Chanakyapuri and Civil Lines, experienced significant waterlogging, causing major traffic disruptions during peak office hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported substantial rainfall from 8.30 am on Thursday to 6.30 am on Friday, with the Safdarjung station recording 39 mm of rain. Delhi University saw 89.5 mm, IGNOU 34.5 mm and Pitampura, Narayana and Pushpa Vihar received 8.5 mm, while Pragati Maidan recorded 6.5 mm.

Due to heavy rainfall, Delhi’s Air Quality Index remained satisfactory, registering at 84 at 4 pm on Friday.

The Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories due to severe waterlogging affecting major underpasses like Jakhira, Azadpur, Minto Bridge, Ashok Vihar and Jahangirpuri. Commuters were advised to avoid Minto Bridge and use alternative routes.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Saturday, forecasting light to moderate rain with thundershowers. The temperature is expected to range from a maximum of 35°C to a minimum of 26°C.

Light rain is also predicted for Sunday and Monday, with the possibility of moderate to light rain and thunderstorms returning next week starting Tuesday. The weather department has warned of potential localised flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas and reduced visibility due to heavy rains. Citizens are advised to monitor traffic conditions before traveling and follow traffic advisories.
