The daughter of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with the Haryana Police, Suruchi reportedly hanged herself after facing academic pressure and distress at school.
Family members claim that Suruchi had failed the unit test, which led the school principal and her math teacher to consider sending her back to Class IX. This decision reportedly caused significant stress for Suruchi. She returned home from school on Thursday and took her own life in her room.
Following a postmortem examination, the police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, responding to allegations made by her family.
Suruchi was a student at a private school in Faridabad and lived with her family in Quarter No. 59, Tower No. 2, Sector 30. Her mother, Sunita, is currently posted at the Palla police station, while her father works for a private company. The family hails from Khanpur village in Hisar district and includes two younger sisters who also attend the same school.
According to Sunita, Suruchi struggled academically during recent unit tests, failing in three out of five subjects. In addition to her academic challenges, Suruchi was a national-level Kho Kho player aspiring to join the Under-19 team, but was reportedly forced by the school to participate in the Under-14 team instead. This situation added to her distress.
Sunita stated that Suruchi expressed feelings of harassment at school and mentioned being threatened. In light of these allegations, a formal complaint has been lodged against the school principal.
Yashpal, spokesperson for Faridabad police, confirmed that an investigation is underway. “We are looking into all aspects of this case based on the parents’ complaints. Strict action will be taken according to what our investigation reveals,” he stated.
