In a high-level review meeting on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed officials to fast-track desilting work and complete all preparations for the upcoming monsoon season by May 31. The Chief Minister emphasised that uninterrupted drainage flow is vital to prevent waterlogging in the city and called for the prompt disposal of removed silt in an environmentally responsible manner. Officials informed that over 66% of desilting work has already been completed. To further expedite the process, 66 advanced machines such as draglines, hydraulic excavators, and trash skimmers have been deployed.

Highlighting monsoon preparedness, the Chief Minister said 190 pumps—comprising permanent, temporary, and mobile units—have been arranged to manage water accumulation. She called for strict inter-departmental coordination and regular testing of pump functionality in vulnerable areas.

In a major green push, CM Gupta announced the development of ‘Atal Park’ on long-neglected and encroached land in Uttam Nagar. The park will emphasise biodiversity, environmental conservation, and public recreation. Plans also include integrating the Sahibi River for riverfront development.

Additionally, roads will be constructed on both sides of the Najafgarh drain, spanning nearly 61 km. These roads will include landscaping, public utilities, and street furniture. She directed that work begin immediately, stressing quality and timely completion.
