Cong seeks hike in agri land’s circle rate to Rs 10 cr per acre

A delegation of farmers from Delhi, led by Naresh Kumar, senior spokesperson of the Delhi Congress, met Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Neeraj Semwal on Wednesdayand submitted a memorandum demanding that the circle rate of agricultural land in Delhi be raised to Rs 10 crore per acre.

Kumar said that the circle rate for agricultural land had not been revised since 2008, when the then Sheila Dikshit-led government increased it to Rs 53 lakh per acre.

He criticised Delhi Government, accusing it of neglecting farmers’ interests despite earlier assurances. “Four months ago, the Chief Minister herself had publicly announced that the government would revise the circle rates and even constituted a committee under the chairmanship of the Divisional Commissioner. Yet, no concrete action has been taken so far,” he said. He demanded that the circle rate be increased without further delay, warning that the Congress would take the issue to the streets if the government fails to act.
