Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Devender Yadav on Tuesday accused the BJP governments in Haryana and Delhi of indifference and incompetence in handling the flood situation in the Capital.

He said thousands of residents living along the Yamuna banks were left to fend for themselves after sudden release of water from the Hathni Kund Barrage flooded low-lying areas. Yadav, who visited the affected areas with senior Congress leaders, alleged that the sudden release of water from the Hathni Kund Barrage without prior notice worsened the crisis.

Promising that the Congress would extend “all possible help” to families hit by floods, Yadav reminded that when the Congress was in power, relief camps and safe shelters were set up in advance. “The Congress has always risen to the occasion, whether in power or not,” he said.

He alleged that the present government has set up “selective relief camps only for show,” while a majority of the affected residents have not received any aid. “Delhi is drowning due to the government’s inaction and the lack of accountability is clearly visible on part of the officials and the government,” Yadav said, urging immediate relief operations and transparent distribution of aid.
