Cops beef up security ahead of Diwali

With the festive season in full swing and Diwali around the corner, the Delhi Police have beefed up security arrangements across the national capital to ensure public safety and smooth celebrations.

Senior officials said Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) from all 15 districts are holding meetings with market associations and local committees to review preparedness, focusing on crowd management, surveillance and crime prevention.

“High-footfall areas such as Sarojini Nagar, Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh and busy Metro stations will see enhanced security,” a senior officer said.

The plan includes regulated entry and exit points, deployment of additional security personnel and awareness drives for shopkeepers and visitors.

Temporary barricades and signage are also being set up in congested markets to streamline pedestrian movement.

To strengthen surveillance, CCTV cameras have been installed at key markets and transport hubs, including New Delhi railway station, with real-time monitoring to track crowd movement and detect potential risks.

Quick response teams (QRTs) and foot patrols are being deployed across busy localities for swift action during emergencies.

Anti-snatching and anti-theft drives are also being intensified, especially around Metro stations and crowded shopping areas.

The Delhi Police are coordinating closely with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to ensure smooth passenger flow at railway stations.

Appealing for public cooperation, officials urged shopkeepers and visitors to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.

“During festivals, our priority is to ensure safety in crowded markets and transport hubs. We are working in close coordination with market committees, transport authorities and ground staff,” another officer said.
