Cops slap MCOCA on 9 Nandu gang members

Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsThe Delhi Police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against nine members of Kapil Sangwan, alias Nandu gang, including former leader and former MLA Naresh Balyan and gangster Kapil Sangwan’s brother, an official said on Wednesday. The nine arrested members include alleged shooters and financiers of the syndicate.
The cop added that Balyan, former MLA from Uttam Nagar constituency, was actively facilitating extortion activities by provide targets such as local builders. He was paid his share. His role was later revealed during a disclosure made by the co-accused. He was involved in four criminal cases, the official added.
The crackdown follows a rise in ransom calls and extortion attempts allegedly made by the Nandu syndicate in Dwarka, West and Outer Delhi, the police said. The gang is accused murders, extortion, armed assaults, and firing incidents across Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
“Shooters, facilitators and conspirators have been arrested, and extortion money as well as illegal firearms have been recovered. Investigation is underway to identify and attach proceeds of crime under the MCOCA, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Surender Kumar.
