The Delhi Government is gearing up to launch its ambitious project of cruse service in Yamuna in a bid to boost tourism by the end of November, officials said on Tuesday.

The section between the Wazirabad barrage (Sonia Vihar) and Jagatpur (near the Shani temple) has been selected for the cruise service due to its relatively better water quality.

Once operational, the service will feature berthing jetties, solar and electric boats, ticket booths, charging points and cafeterias, along with public amenities and waiting areas. The initiative is expected to make the Yamuna a centre for eco-friendly water transport and leisure activities.

Notably the government had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in March this year for this ambitious project. The agreement was signed between the Inland Waterways Authority of India, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Jal Board, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, and Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation. The cruse service is part of the many such projects in pipeline near the river.

Notably, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had earlier announced for Delhi’s ambitious Yamuna riverfront project.
