The Delhi BJP OBC Morcha staged a protest outside Congress headquarters on Friday, demanding an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his controversial statement on ending reservations for OBC, SC and ST communities. Led by Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, the protest featured burning of effigies of Gandhi, symbolising the anger of the OBC community.

Bidhuri, addressing a large gathering of protesters, condemned Gandhi’s remarks. “Rahul Gandhi’s statement about ending reservations for SC, ST and OBC communities is an insult to the backward classes. These provisions, made by Dr BR Ambedkar, are enshrined in the Constitution. Gandhi has no right to tamper with them,” he said.

Several senior BJP leaders, including Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Delhi BJP OBC Morcha president Sunil Yadav, participated in the protest, emphasising that the OBC community would not tolerate any attempts to undermine their constitutional rights.

Sachdeva accused Gandhi of hypocrisy. “Gandhi behaves one way in India to gain sympathy, pretending to be a common man, but abroad, he tarnishes India’s image and questions the very foundations of our Constitution. He must apologise for these irresponsible remarks,” He reminded the crowd of past instances when the Congress allegedly discriminated against backward and Dalit leaders. “Gandhi’s stance on reservations is nothing new. The Congress has always side-lined leaders from backward communities — Babu Jagjivan Ram was denied the chance to become Prime Minister and Sitaram Kesari was removed from his position as Congress President,” he added.
