With the Yamuna flowing above the danger mark and water seeping into houses in Delhi’s Yamuna Bazar, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday visited the flood-prone area to review preparedness and management measures. She also inspected the Central Flood Control Room and interacted with residents.

“I have checked the control room as well. The water is receding as fast as it is coming, so chances of waterlogging are low. This is the most low-lying area where houses are situated. We had requested residents to shift for a few days, but they have not moved yet. The issue will persist only for a day, after which the water will recede,” Gupta said during her visit.

She added, “Medical relief points have been set up in the area, with arrangements for food and drinking water. Solar lights are also being given to ensure the locality remains well-lit at night.”

The inspection came a day after the Chief Minister had assured that despite heavy rainfall in the upper Yamuna region and rising discharge from the Hathnikund Barrage, the national capital was “completely in a safe zone.”
