Delhi Cong chief welcomes AAP leaders into party fold

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav on Tuesday welcomed several prominent AAP leaders and workers into the Congress fold, criticising former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership.

AAP joint secretary from the Badli Assembly Sarbjit Singh, its 2020 Assembly election campaigner Farid Shah, former AAP councillor Parveen, former BSP candidate Rajni Suryavanshi and others were formally inducted into the Congress at a ceremony held at the DPCC office here.

In his address, Yadav said AAP was rapidly losing support due to Kejriwal’s ‘corruption and authoritarian attitude’. Several leaders, ministers, MLAs and councillors were abandoning the party, which he described as a “sinking ship”.

“As AAP heads for a total rout in the upcoming Assembly elections, leaders from both AAP and BJP are joining the Congress, attracted by its democratic approach and the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi,” Yadav said.

He said the Congress, under the guidance of Kharge and Gandhi, was committed to protecting the Constitution and upholding democracy. “The Congress is open to those who believe in its policies and programmes,” Yadav stated.
