Delhi gurdwara committee dedicates hospital to sangat

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Friday dedicated Bala Sahib Hospital — renamed Guru Harkrishan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research — to the “sangat”. The ceremony commenced with the completion of “Akhand Path” followed by ardas.

Addressing the gathering, former DSGMC chief and Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa congratulated president Harmeet Singh Kalka, general secretary Jagdip Singh Kahlon and the entire committee to convert a 20-year-old structure into a state-of-the-art medical facility.

Sirsa said the first phase of development began in 2019 with the launch of a free dialysis service. Now, the hospital includes a full-fledged OPD, operation theatres and various wards.

He announced that the Delhi Government would soon approve Ayushman Bharat cards for this hospital, enhancing access to affordable healthcare.

Sirsa said the committee should consider opening a law college, which would significantly benefit the Sikh community, especially youth.

Commending the DSGMC for managing other educational institutions, he urged critics to avoid politicising minor issues and instead focus on larger goals for the community’s progress.

Kalka said no development works were undertaken during the tenure of previous administration. In contrast, significant progress had been made since 2019 under Sirsa’s leadership and the current committee’s commitment, he said.

Kahlon said the hospital would offer services at the government-approved rates. For those in need, OPD services would be completely free of charge, he said.

Expressing deep gratitude, the committee thanked Bachan Singh and his entire team for their dedicated Kar Seva (selfless service) in bringing this project to life. They highlighted the committee’s ongoing initiatives like providing MRI and CT scans for just Rs 50, free dialysis and PET scan tests.
