Delhi man sponsors flights to ferry Kabul’s terror-hit

New Delhi, August 8

Delhi-based philanthropist Vikramjit Singh Sahney has hired two planes to ferry Sikh and Hindu families from Afghanistan to India on August 14 and 25.

These families are based in Kabul, Jalalabad and Ghazni and are keen to come after the deadly terrorist attack on a Kabul gurdwara on March 25 where 26 people died.

Sahney is the international president of the World Punjabi Organisation. These flights will evacuate some 400 Sikhs and Hindus from Afghanistan in coordination with the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and the Indian Embassy in Kabul.

The necessary long-term visas have been issued by the Indian Embassy. He thanked Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri for coordinating and Home Minister Amit Shah for already having assured that these persons would be granted permanent residency and citizenship in due course.

The DSGMC will provide temporary accommodation to these migrants in Delhi gurdwaras. All the families have been sponsored by USA-based Dalip Singh Sethi and Paramjit Singh Bedi to meet their household expenses for one year. — TNS
