Delhi Mayor intensifies efforts to improve cleanliness across city

Mayor Shelly Oberoi has intensified efforts to enhance cleanliness across the city in the wake the of festive season, focusing on the management of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste to combat air pollution.

At a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Oberoi addressed the ongoing challenges in waste management and the need for better coordination among civic agencies.

“We have acknowledged the efforts made under the special cleanliness drive, but the unauthorised dumping of garbage remains a significant issue,” Oberoi stated. She urged the MCD and other civic bodies to improve their collaboration, noting that manpower shortages are hindering removal of debris in certain areas.

The Mayor emphasised the importance of rigorous supervision in waste management, directing Deputy Commissioners to ensure accountability among junior engineers and superintendents. “We have implemented daily monitoring systems and auditing reports to maintain high levels of accountability,” she said.

One of the critical issues discussed was the maintenance of parks, which has raised concerns among residents. “We are finalising park maintenance tenders, starting with the Karol Bagh zone,” the Mayor announced, indicating that this initiative will expand city-wide.The meeting also highlighted ongoing problems related to garbage collection on roads managed by the PWD.
