Delhi Police honour martyrs

In observance of All India Police Commemoration Day, the Delhi Police on Friday gathered at the National Police Memorial to honour the sacrifice of its martyrs.

Commissioner of Police Satish Golchha led officers in paying homage by laying wreaths at the Central Sculpture of the National Police Memorial.

Every year on October 21, the Police Commemoration Day is observed nationwide to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The main observance is held at the National Police Memorial and thereafter the Central Armed Police Force (CAPFs) are entrusted one day each to organise commemorative events at the National Police Memorial from October 22 to 30 and the Delhi Police was assigned to conduct the programme on October 24.

The observance began, early in the morning with a symbolic “Run for Martyrs” from Nehru Park to the National Police Memorial.

Later, family members of the Delhi Police martyrs and serving personnel visited the memorial, offered tributes at the Central Sculpture. A video display showcasing the sacrifice and bravery of police personnel was screened at the memorial’s theater.

They also visited the museum and paid homage at the Wall of Valour, which bears names of police personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The day concluded with Beating Retreat Ceremony and homage to the Delhi Police martyrs by the officers along with their spouses.
