Delhi zoo reopens after 2 months

The National Zoological Park (NZP) reopened to the public on Saturday, welcoming 8,065 visitors, including 954 schoolchildren from 12 schools, on the first day after reopening.

According to zoo officials, the park opened its gates at 9 am and remained accessible until 5 pm, with ticket booking and entry allowed up to 4:30 pm. The last exit for visitors was at 5:30 pm.

To mark the reopening, the zoo introduced an “insta ticket booking service” for on-the-spot digital ticket purchases. The system allows visitors to scan a QR code displayed at the entry gate and book tickets instantly. Payments can be made using UPI applications or through debit cards, credit cards and net banking.

Officials said the new facility had been added alongside the existing online booking service available through the zoo’s website. The system aims to make the entry process quicker and more convenient, reducing time spent in queues. Many visitors reportedly used the feature on the reopening day.

“The insta ticket booking service has been developed to ensure time-saving, seamless and hassle-free entry for all visitors,” the zoo’s statement said. “Many guests availed of this facility on the first day and expressed satisfaction with the new service, said Zoo director Dr Sanjeet Kumar

“The National Zoological Park always prioritises the convenience and safety of its visitors and will continue to improve its facilities in the future to provide a better experience of nature and wildlife,” he added.

The zoo had been closed since August 30 due to the detection of avian influenza in its waterbird aviary.
