Drink Yamuna water, fulfil vow made 5 yrs ago: Rahul to Kejri
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi intensified his attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, accusing him of failing to deliver on his promise to clean the Yamuna. Speaking at an election rally in Bawana on Wednesday, Gandhi challenged Kejriwal to drink water from the polluted river — a vow the Delhi Chief Minister made five years ago but has not followed through on.
“Five years ago, Kejriwal promised to take a bath in the Yamuna and drink its water, but he has failed to do so,” said Gandhi, mocking Kejriwal for his inaction. “I challenge him now—drink the water of Yamuna as you promised, and after that, we’ll meet in the hospital,” he added, continuing his criticism of Kejriwal’s failure to tackle pollution in the river.
Gandhi also took aim at both Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of lying to the public during their campaign speeches. “Kejriwal has run a corrupt government and Modi lies in his speeches. Both are guilty of deceiving the people,” Gandhi said, referring to the alleged liquor scam under Kejriwal’s administration.
He further claimed that Delhi residents are now aware of Kejriwal’s broken promises and the corruption within his government. “Today, the whole of Delhi knows that Kejriwal has committed the biggest liquor scam and he has failed to deliver on his promises,” Gandhi added.
Continuing his address, Gandhi reiterated Congress’s commitment to conducting a caste census and breaching the 50 per cent cap on reservations, urging Kejriwal to clarify his stance on the issue.
On the subject of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi dismissed claims that Congress was intimidated by the BJP leader. “We are not afraid of Narendra Modi. Instead, it is Modi who is scared of Congress and us,” Gandhi declared, emphasising that the Congress party stood for unity and respect for all communities. Gandhi contrasted Congress’s approach with that of the BJP, stating, “While BJP spreads hatred, we open a shop of love in the market of hatred created by Modi.”
Gandhi concluded by stressing that unlike Kejriwal, he would never make false promises, particularly regarding the Yamuna. “I will never promise to drink the Yamuna’s water because I know it is polluted. I will not make a false promise like Kejriwal did,” he stated.
