Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Monday laid the foundation stone for a Senior Citizens’ Recreation Centre in Mayur Vihar Phase 1, marking a step towards strengthening community infrastructure for the elderly. The centre, being developed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), aims to offer a dedicated space for senior citizens to interact, relax and engage in recreational activities.

The ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ ceremony was held in the presence of Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra and Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh. Also attending were Chairman of Shahdara South Zone Sandeep Kapoor, Vice Chairman Sanjeev Kumar, local MLA Ravikant, Mayur Vihar District BJP president Vijender Dhama and several senior residents of the locality.

Speaking at the event, Sachdeva said, “Our elders are the backbone of our society. It is not just the duty of their families but of the entire community to ensure they are respected and included in the social fabric. This recreation centre will be a space where they can stay engaged and connected.”

Union Minister Harsh Malhotra echoed the sentiment, stating that senior citizens are an essential part of social discourse. “Bringing a smile to their faces is our responsibility. This centre will serve as a hub for hundreds of elderly residents to share conversations, laughter, and companionship,” he said.

Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh added that the MCD intends to establish similar centres in all 250 wards of the Capital. “The Mayur Vihar centre will not only provide entertainment and sports facilities but will also help address loneliness among the elderly,” he said.
