FY 2024-25: Over 2,300 men fined for entering women’s coaches in Metro

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) penalised more than 2,300 male passengers during the financial year 2024-25 for unlawfully entering coaches reserved exclusively for women, officials said on Saturday.

According to DMRC data, a total of 2,320 challans were issued under the Delhi Metro Railway Operation and Maintenance Act, with the highest number of violations recorded in May (443 cases), followed by April (419) and September (397). December 2024 saw the lowest number of offenders, with just one individual penalised.

Under the Act, offenders caught travelling in women-only coaches face a fine of Rs 250. In cases where individuals are unable to pay the penalty on the spot, CISF or DMRC flying squad personnel issue a warning and let them go, the official said.

The DMRC said these enforcement drives were carried out in close coordination with CISF personnel deployed at various points across the network to maintain strict surveillance. The corporation has also stepped up awareness campaigns to curb misuse of coaches reserved for women, including frequent announcements in trains and on platforms, digital messaging through DMRC’s social media handles and clear signage at stations indicating the location of women-only coaches.

“Our flying squads and CISF teams are vigilant and authorised to take immediate action against violators. We are committed to ensuring a safer and more comfortable travel experience for women,” the official added, emphasising that such sensitisation measures will continue.
