Goa Statehood Day celebrated at Delhi Secretariat with folk dance, exhibition

In a colourful display of cultural unity, the Delhi Government on Friday celebrated Goa Statehood Day with a special event at the Delhi Secretariat, organised by the Department of Art, Culture and Languages. The programme aimed to showcase the rich heritage, traditions and legacy of Goa, drawing enthusiastic participation from government employees and members of the public.

Chief Minister (CM) Rekha Gupta, who inaugurated the event, said, “A large number of Goan citizens reside in Delhi, and through their hard work and dedication, they contribute significantly not only to the progress of their own state but also to that of the entire nation.” She added that the Delhi Government has decided to celebrate the foundation day of every Indian state to promote cultural diversity and national unity.

The event featured captivating performances by artistes from the Sahitya Kala Parishad, including Goa’s traditional folk dance Fugdi, which emerged as a major highlight. Dancers dressed in traditional attire brought alive the vibrant spirit of Goan culture through music and rhythm.

Minister of Art, Culture and Languages Kapil Mishra praised Goa’s cultural and economic contributions, stating, “Goa is not only a cultural leader but also a frontrunner in tourism and social development. The cooperation between Delhi and Goa continues to strengthen across sectors.” He also added that Goa’s rich legacy and inspiring traditions are a matter of pride for the entire nation.

Also present at the event was Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh, who joined the dignitaries in extending greetings to the Goan community.

A special exhibition was also organised, displaying Goa’s traditional crafts, artwork and cultural symbols, offering a deeper insight into the state’s heritage. The celebration saw active participation from Secretariat employees, adding to the festive atmosphere.
