“With the approval of the competent authority, Satish Golcha is hereby appointed to the post of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders,” read the order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre, was serving as the Director General (Prisons), Delhi, before this appointment. He replaces SBK Singh, Director General of Home Guards, who took on additional charge following the retirement of his predecessor, Sanjay Arora, on July 31.
Interestingly, Golcha’s appointment to the top post comes just a day after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked by a man at her camp office. Known within police circles as a “hard taskmaster” with a reputation for discipline and strong administrative skills, Golcha is expected to bring a firm and structured approach to Delhi’s law enforcement, particularly at a time when the Capital’s security is under heightened scrutiny.
He has also previously served in several key roles in the Capital’s police force, including Special CP (Intelligence), Joint CP (Eastern Range) and DCP. In 2020, Golcha was Special CP (Law & Order) when northeast Delhi riots occurred. He was also posted as the Director General of Police in Arunachal Pradesh.
The appointment from the AGMUT cadre comes after four years. Golcha is the 26th Commissioner of Delhi Police.
