Govt intensifies Winter Action Plan: Sirsa reviews pollution control measures

As part of the intensified Winter Action Plan, the Delhi Government has stepped up its pollution mitigation efforts across the city’s 13 identified pollution hotspots. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Saturday conducted a detailed inspection at Anand Vihar, one of Delhi’s major pollution hotspots, to assess on-ground implementation of the plan.

During his visit, the minister reviewed measures related to dust control, traffic congestion and road repair, and also inspected the Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring system of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) installed near the Anand Vihar Metro Station.

The Minister directed officials to increase the deployment of traffic personnel to manage congestion, ensure buses halted only at designated bays, and use movable anti-smog guns during peak hours. He also took note of a long-pending unpaved road patch at the entrance of the Anand Vihar Bus Terminal.

Calling the issue a “classic example of bureaucratic neglect by previous governments,” Sirsa ordered immediate transplantation of three small trees obstructing the site.

“This key stretch at Anand Vihar has been closed for decades. Our government will now ensure that the road is opened for public commute, congestion at the slip road outside Anand Vihar bus stop is eased and local dust emissions are curbed. Under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, Delhi is witnessing real, measurable progress in pollution control and infrastructure improvement,” Sirsa said.

He further emphasised coordinated efforts between the DPCC, PWD, and Transport Department to repair broken pavements, manage roadside congestion and deploy mist sprayers during peak pollution hours.

“Each hotspot has unique challenges, and our teams are addressing them scientifically. Be it road dust, traffic management, or industrial emissions, we are ensuring strict compliance and continuous monitoring,” the minister said.

Sirsa also announced that similar inspections would be held at other major hotspots, including Ashok Vihar and Punjabi Bagh, as part of the ongoing winter pollution control campaign.

“The proactive teamwork between civic bodies, enforcement agencies, and the public is yielding results. We are determined to make Delhi’s air cleaner and the environment healthier for all citizens,” Sirsa added.
