Govt to distribute assistive devices worth Rs 1 crore

The Delhi government will distribute assistive devices worth nearly Rs 1 crore to senior citizens and persons with disabilities within a year in Bawana, officials said on Sunday. They said the initiative is being carried out under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana and Sugamya Assistive Scheme and the government has made record progress in the last nine months.

At a camp organized at Royal Market, Sector 20, Rohini, Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh handed over assistive devices worth nearly Rs 10 lakh to 100 senior citizens. Women beneficiaries under the Ujjwala Yojana received free gas connections during the event.

The items included wheelchairs, walkers, hearing aids, cervical collars, spectacles and spinal support belts, along with other mobility and healthcare devices.

The minister said, “High quality assistive devices were distributed in alignment with the resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

“In the last nine months, the government has distributed more assistive devices to senior citizens and persons with disabilities than the previous government did in five years,” he added.

Appealing for public cooperation in identifying those in need, the minister said, “If any senior citizen in your home or neighbourhood requires an assistive device, please inform us.”

He added that as per directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government was ensuring that all senior citizens and persons with disabilities received benefits of relevant government schemes.”

Calling the effort a duty towards the vulnerable, he said, “Continuous monitoring is being conducted to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive assistance without any hurdles.”

The minister assured that assessment and distribution camps will continue to ensure no eligible citizen is left out.
