As the national capital continues to reel under ‘very poor’ air quality, the Delhi Government has decided to procure 15 new air purifiers for installation in the Secretariat building to improve indoor air conditions.

A circular issued by the Public Works Department (PWD) stated that the purifiers, worth approximately Rs 5.5 lakh, would be installed in various sections of the Secretariat. Officials said the move is aimed at protecting staff from the harmful effects of toxic air and ensuring a healthier work environment indoors.

The decision, however, drew sharp criticism from the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

“The BJP government is turning Delhi into a gas chamber and itself breathing the air of an air purifier,” the AAP said in a statement.

MLA Sanjeev Jha also took a dig at the government, claiming that while children, the elderly, and ordinary citizens are forced to inhale toxic air, ministers have secured clean air for themselves.
