Delhi’s Minister for Development and Tourism Kapil Mishra held a crucial meeting on Tuesday to address the worsening condition of stray cattle in the Masoodpur Dairy area of Mehrauli. The meeting brought together local MLA Gajendra Singh and senior officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Government’s Department of Development.

The discussion focused on measures to provide safe shelter and essential infrastructure support for stray and abandoned cattle, while simultaneously aiding dairy operators in the region. Mishra underlined the government’s commitment, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, to ensure that stray cattle are protected and not left to roam public roads — a situation that threatens both animal welfare and public safety.

MLA Gajendra Singh highlighted the problem of many dairy owners abandoning cows on the streets after milk extraction, causing hardship for both the animals and residents. The government has resolved that dairy operators, who adhere to proper animal care standards, will be eligible for benefits under various government schemes, while strict action will be taken against those neglecting their responsibilities.

The meeting also emphasised ensuring the availability of adequate fodder, water and other basic amenities for dairy farmers in Masoodpur. Minister Mishra said empowering the dairy sector would not only improve animal welfare but also boost the economic prospects of those involved, enhancing milk quality and related products.
