Govt to train 31,600 Sikh youth under PM VIKAS scheme, says Kiren Rijiju

Union Minister of Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju launched a skill development initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan (PM VIKAS) scheme to empower the Sikh community through training, employment generation, and financial support.

Speaking at the launch event on Saturday, Rijiju emphasised that the initiative aligns with the government’s vision of inclusive development and targeted support for minority communities. “Through the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), we have signed an MoU to implement this large-scale programme. It requires coordination with the Delhi government. Our goal is to provide skills to youth and women, along with a stipend and financial assistance to help them secure employment,” he said.

According to an official release from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the programme will benefit 31,600 candidates, including 29,600 for skill training and 2,000 for educational support. The initiative will focus on training individuals in industry-relevant job roles, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Scientist, Telecom Technician (5G), Technical Artist (AR-VR), Graphic Designer, and Solar PV Installer, among others.

To ensure a smooth transition into the workforce, candidates undergoing training will receive employment opportunities. Additionally, all participants will be provided with a monthly stipend by the Ministry during their training period.

“The initiative under PM VIKAS reflects the Government of India’s commitment to economic empowerment through skill development, particularly in collaboration with institutions serving minority communities. By equipping youth with future-ready skills, we are ensuring their long-term professional growth,” Rijiju stated.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), which is implementing the project, reaffirmed its commitment to provide education and vocational training. With the government’s support, the initiative is expected to create new employment avenues for Sikh youth and contribute to their socio-economic development.
