This new digital navigation system is currently deployed on 129 major roads. The system will also display speed limits on the screen to encourage people to drive within the prescribed limits.
DCP, Traffic, Dr Rajesh Kumar Mohan said that the aim of this initiative was to reduce road accidents and increase awareness among people about traffic rules.
“Often accidents occur because drivers drive at high speed on busy roads. There is a greater chance of survival if accidents occur at lower speeds,” DCP Mohan added.
According to a senior police officer, the digital system will be implemented on more than 200 roads and major junctions by the beginning of next year, bringing the entire city under the ambit of this high-tech alert network.
